Leave of Absence
An extended, approved period away from work, often unpaid, beyond standard PTO.
A leave of absence (LOA) is a longer authorized absence — for medical, family, educational, or personal reasons — that goes beyond regular paid time off. It may be paid or unpaid and is often job-protected.
Because an LOA is exceptional and longer than typical PTO, it's tracked distinctly with its own approval and documentation.
Example: An employee taking three months off to care for a relative may be on a leave of absence.
In Orvella: Define long-form leave types in Orvella with their own rules and an audit trail of approvals.
