Sabbatical

An extended break from work, often paid, typically offered after years of service.

A sabbatical is a long, planned absence — weeks or months — usually granted as a reward for tenure and used for rest, travel, study, or personal projects.

Sabbatical policies define eligibility (e.g. after 5 years), duration, and whether it's paid, so they're tracked as a dedicated leave type.

Example: A company offering a paid 6-week sabbatical after 5 years of service is providing a tenure-based break.

In Orvella: Track sabbaticals as a distinct, eligibility-gated leave type.
