Compassionate Leave

Time off to cope with a family emergency, serious illness of a loved one, or loss.

Compassionate leave is time off for personal emergencies — a critically ill relative, a family crisis, or a death. It overlaps with bereavement leave but is broader, covering urgent situations beyond a death.

Entitlement and pay differ widely by employer and country; many treat it case by case with manager discretion.

Example: Taking two days of compassionate leave to support a seriously ill parent.

In Orvella: Orvella lets you define compassionate leave as its own type with whatever approval and pay rules you choose.
