Bereavement Leave

Paid time off following the death of a family member or loved one.

Bereavement leave (or compassionate leave) gives employees time away from work to grieve, make arrangements, and attend a funeral after a death in the family.

Policies vary in length and who qualifies as a covered relation, so it's typically defined explicitly in the employee handbook.

Example: A company offering 3 days of paid leave after the death of an immediate family member is providing bereavement leave.

In Orvella: Add bereavement leave as a distinct leave type with its own allowance and rules.
