Overtime

Hours worked beyond an employee's standard schedule, often paid at a premium or banked as time off.

Overtime is time worked above normal contracted hours. Depending on law and policy it may be paid at a premium rate (e.g. time-and-a-half) or converted to time off in lieu.

Tracking overtime accurately matters for both pay compliance and fair time-in-lieu balances.

Example: An employee who works 45 hours in a 40-hour week has 5 hours of overtime.
