Garden Leave

When an employee serving notice is paid to stay away from work until their notice ends.

Garden leave (or gardening leave) is when an employer asks a departing employee to remain employed and paid through their notice period, but to stay away from the workplace and work. It keeps the person off competitor payrolls and away from sensitive information while still bound by their contract.

It is most common for senior or client-facing roles, and the employee usually keeps their salary and benefits during the period.

Example: A manager resigns with a 3-month notice period and spends it on garden leave.

In Orvella: Orvella can mark an employee as on extended leave so balances, approvals, and the calendar reflect their status.
