How annual leave entitlement is calculated
Full-timers get the set allowance; part-timers get a pro-rata share based on the days they work; and irregular-hours staff often accrue holiday at 12.07% of hours worked. For the full method with examples, see our guide on how to calculate annual leave entitlement.
Frequently asked questions
How do I calculate pro-rata annual leave?
Multiply the full-time entitlement by the fraction of days worked: days worked per week ÷ full-time days per week × full-time leave. A 3-day-a-week employee on a 28-day full-time allowance gets 3/5 × 28 = 16.8 days.
What is the 12.07% holiday method?
For irregular-hours staff, holiday accrues at 12.07% of hours worked — derived from 5.6 weeks of statutory leave being 12.07% of the working year. 30 hours worked ≈ 3.6 hours of leave.
